Princess and the Frog
Dec. 29th, 2009 08:06 pmI saw The Princess and the Frog today, and loved it. Not in an "Oh my God, best Disney movie EVER!" sort of way, but definitely in a way that, even if I wasn't a rabid all-things-Disney-and-especially-the-princesses person, I would still have enjoyed it. I'm so happy that Disney's gone back to the good ol' days of non-creepy animation. It seems that, no matter how many times people tell me that it's a great movie, Toy Story will always freak me the hell out. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to see the 3-D version of it.
But yeah, Princess and the Frog, definitely a wonderful, fun movie. We were the oldest people in the theater (not counting parents) but it was totally worth it. Tiana is a wonderful princess, and I couldn't help but cringe as I realized that my young nieces will want to be exactly like Lottie, with the poofy pink dresses, blond hair, and desire to marry a prince (they had a tendency to completely miss the point of movies). But Tiana, I thought, was great: it's nice that we've finally got a princess who did more than lay around a castle or sit around a house with seven other men.
And the villain! Totally in my list of top Animation Villains.

And just pretty much everything about this movie was wonderfully adorable, from the frogs to the giant fat alligator to the hillbilly firefly to the blind little old lady who lived in the bayou, everything was beautiful and sweet and exactly what I've been missing from Disney movies from the past several years.
Also? Lots of little Disney references hidden throughout the movie which are fun to try and catch.
So that's my little review. I really, really liked this movie, to the point that it's probably one of my favorites of the year. Right up there with Star Trek.
